Bulgarian born, Eva Tatcheva moved to the UK at the age of 20 to pursue her dream of becoming a children’s books illustrator.
Whilst in Bulgarian, Eva studied for 5 years at the prestigious Art Grammar School at the capital Sofia, were she trained in the subjects of traditional drawing, painting and sculpture. In the UK Eva continued her studies at Kingston University where she gained a 1st class Bachelors (HONS) Illustration degree followed by a Masters Degree in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art.
Eva Tatcheva’s fist children’s book ‘Witch Zelda’s Birthday Cake’’ was Published by Tango Books soon after she completed her Bachelors Degree. The book was translated in several languages, including French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. Following the success of ‘ Witch Zelda’s Birthday Cake’, the publisher commissioned Eva to come up with a second book for the character. This is when “Witch Zelda’s Birthday Present’’ was created. This was followed by the 3rd Witch Zelda book titled ‘Witch Zelda’s Beauty Contest’’. The trilogy of Witch Zelda books have now become collectors items. Tatcheva was also honored to have been chosen by Bloomsbury Publishers to create the wrap around front cover and 94 inside illustrations for Angela Carter’s children’s book “Sea-Cat and Dragon King”. This Angela Carter’s masterpiece was to be published for the very first time, after a manuscript of the late Carter was found in an old drawer. Eva was incredibly moved at the time to have been given a copy of the original manuscript to work with and wanted her illustrations to compliment the best possible way such beautiful tale by such remarkable story teller.
Whilst working on her children’s books, ever developed passion for illustrating for editorial and design. She became fascinated by working to a brief/project on completely random subject matters with different clients around the world.
Tatcheva’s work is extremely versatile, which makes it suitable for wide variety of projects. Having background in traditional drawing and painting and having had embraced the new evolving digital media, having worked both for the Editorial/Design and Children’s books markets, Eva can offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of illustration.
